Barking and Dagenham Means Business

Today, Thursday, 7th February 2008, saw the launch of the first ever Barking & Dagenham Business Awards at The Spotted Dog pub in Barking. These 2008 Awards are the first of what will become an annual celebration of the successes and achievements of businesses in the borough.
The Spotted Dog is one of the oldest established businesses in the borough and was the first to enter Awards, with landlord Russell Humes signing his form at the launch event.
The Awards are open to every business trading in the borough of Barking & Dagenham and there is a cash prize of £3,000 for the overall winner.
Award categories are:
•Best New Business
•Retailer of the Year
•Innovation
•Growth Business of the Year
•Business Person of the Year
•Marketing Excellence
•Training and Development
•Business of the Year (The overall winner selected from the seven categories above)
Barking & Dagenham Enterprise (BDE) are responsible for organising the awards and speaking at the launch BDE Board Member Michael Frempong-Taylor said: “For all of us involved, this is an exciting project. It is something new, fresh and innovative for the borough and is the first time that Barking & Dagenham has celebrated the contribution that businesspeople make to our community We want local businesses to take part in the Awards and be part of another Barking & Dagenham success story.”
Entry forms are being sent to every business by post and entries can be made online at www.boldanddynamic.co.uk/awards. Or businesses can phone the event hotline on 020 8858 8889 and ask for a form to be sent in the post.
The closing date for entries is 5pm on Thursday 1st May and the Awards Ceremony is at Castle Green in Dagenham on Tuesday, 8th July 2008.
