Helping build small businesses

Investors in People UK recently sponsored a pilot project for businesses in the borough leading them towards Investors in People (IiP) accreditation. The project was aimed at helping local businesses to transform their performance through the IiP framework which has been proven to improve financial performance, increase profitability and help organisations meet their strategic objectives.

Ten businesses took part in the pilot and through intensive mentoring and support they were able to develop unique systems for their organisation as per the IiP framework. This made them more focussed on what they do and how they can improve growth and profitability in the long run. The London College of Business and Vicarage Field Shopping Centre are currently being assessed, and the following three companies received accreditation through the project:

• Tricon Ltd, IIP recognised (silver)
• T&L Training Ltd, IIP recognised(bronze)
• Oakleafe Properties Ltd, IIP recognised

Feedback from the pilot showed that participants found the exercise positive and felt that it exposed the positives and negatives of the business – giving them important diagnostic tools and solutions to enable them to grow their business.
