Barking & Dagenham Chamber of Commerce have organised some really interesting and informative business events lately. This week I joined 45 other businesses in a session to hear about Competefor, the amazing new website that has been set up by the Olympic Development Authority to provide a matching service for buyers and sellers. All for contracts relating to London 2012. Described by Mike Mulvey Chief Executive of London Business Network as being like a dating agency; interesting thought! But seriously, his presentation really brought to life the opportunities that are starting to come through……… and not just those big projects such as the Olympic stadium but more realistic ones for Barking firms. Evidently there are 15 separate canteen facilities on the site for the construction workers. I have seen the website and started to register myself to see how it works and I have found that it is quite accessible. Whilst quite a lot of information is required such as details of your Health & Safety policies, the value of your liability insurances and business turnover etc; the site does allow you to save the work and come back to it later when you have the information to hand. Please give it a try on www.competefor.com. If there is a gap in your information you are directed to Business Link or other public bodies that can help you. Buyers will be using the site to identify service providers and you have to be in it to win it as they say.
