Housing
Housing stock is being improved and expanded in a huge community regeneration programme.
Up to 10,800 homes are being built by Bellway Homes and the national regeneration agency, English Partnerships, on the 350-acre Barking Riverside that lies between the A13 and the River Thames.
Half the site is parkland, and development is planned to protect wildlife along Barking Riverside’s Thames frontage.
A further 200 acres is under development at South Dagenham on the site of the former Ford car assembly plant. Up to 3,000 new homes are planned here in a mixed environmental, retail and housing development using sustainable materials.
The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (LBBD) manages and maintains about 20,000 homes, one of the largest social housing stocks in London. LBBD is investing £60m over the next two years in its housing stock, as well as seeking the funding to build more good quality, affordable homes.
